In our everyday lives, where we’re conditioned to always look outward – for approval, validation, comparison and direction, it’s still possible to come to that quiet but undeniable moment when we realise that everything we’ve been searching for is in fact already within us.
Coming home to your soul is not a journey of distance, but of depth. It’s a return to the part of you that’s always known who you are, why you’re here and what really matters. The journey inward necessitates us being willing to switch ourselves off from the noise of the external world.
Living as we do in a culture that’s largely built on comparison and distraction, we’ve become used to measuring our worth by benchmarks outside us. For example, appearance, relationships, job titles, productivity, possessions or followers. Even in the spiritual arena, there can be an urge to seek the next modality, healer or tool that promises alignment.
And while support can be wonderful, helpful and necessary, it becomes disempowering when we forget that our own inner guidance is just as sacred. If we rely solely on the outside to tell us who we are, we begin to abandon the quiet voice within, the voice of our soul.
How do we tell the difference between external guidance and our own inner knowing?
External noise is loud, pressing and often tied to fear or “what ifs” – “What if I don’t?” or “What will they think?”
Inner knowing is calm, subtle and grounded in trust – we somehow just know it feels right even if it doesn’t make sense to others.
When you’re led by your soul, you may not always have a clear path, but you’ll feel a steady peace guiding you forward. You’ll become aware of more synchronicities, intuitive prods and a growing sense of alignment in your choices.
So how do we go within when the world is constantly pulling us outward? Here are a few practices to gently help you connect:
As always, getting into a daily habit of practising one or all of these, even for a short time, will help to build that soul connection.
Coming home to your soul doesn’t mean that life will always make sense or that you’ll never doubt again but it does mean you have something stronger and truer guiding you from within when you choose to make that connection.
Thank you Kate, your blogs always hit home with me. I needed this reminder to find my quiet space and not to ask for external validation. I know I’m on the right track as those synchronicities you talk about happen to me regularly, the latest just two days ago. Now I can see them for what they are and perhaps I’ll learn to recognise them and listen now. Plus, I need to get back to my Reiki, long abandoned. X
Thanks so much for your comment, Shelly. I’m so glad this blog acted as a good reminder. Always love to hear any feedback, Kate xxx
